Before we begin discussing the advices and tips about the ITIL exam, let's first realize what ITIL exam is and why would you need this accreditation.
The Information Technology Infrastructure Library is the most broadly used IT service management in the world.
Many companies globally have accepted this method to administer their business and IT infrastructure more effectively and economically.
This procedure describes a methodical and well-organized approach to the management of information technology service provision. The companies that use ITIL reduce costs and improve information technology services through the use of proven best practice procedures.
The Information Technology Infrastructure Library version 3 foundation level exam is a multiple choice exam and it takes around 1 hour to complete.
The passing score is 65%.
The tricky part is that the questions are selected from 5 different books.
So how do you pass the ITIL version 3 exams? Here are my personal opinions and tips.
ITIL Tip 1: Time is very important
Remember that you have approximately 1.
5 minutes per question.
Do not lose too much time on a single question, especially at the beginning of the test.
If you are not sure about a particular question, skip it and review it later if you have time at the end of the test.
ITIL Tip 2: Eliminate the obvious wrong answers
Generally there is at least one irrelevant answer and it is easy to pick this out at first glance.
I also use the elimination method to further narrow down the answers to the final one.
ITIL Tip 3: Finding the best answer may require you to read the question many times
Sometimes, when you read a question two or more times, you realize something new that completely chances the whole meaning and consequently the correct answer.
Spend time to study the question and the possible answers and try to narrow down the options.
ITIL Tip 4: Generic vs Specific Answers - Read the question and understand what the question is seeking to test you.
Occasionally, the generic answer that has all the true ITIL statements may look like the best answer but if the question asked for your opinion, or the specific actions that you would take, then this generic answer may not be the best answer. You should always choose the option that is more specifically associated to the scenario.
ITIL Tip 5: Purchase ITIL practice questions from a credible ITIL training source.
Study carefully all the ITIL practice questions and do not just try to memorize everything.
Read methodically and understand very well all the answers provided.
Good luck!
