Learning Compression - Another Highly Beneficial by Product of Elearning Solutions

Both educational institutions and corporate training experts have both been working to create a working combination of shortened learning time and maximized learning strategies and approaches, commonly coined as the "learning compression" phenomenon.
This is mainly to achieve a maximum of knowledge and skills learned within a shorter time span than what would normally be allotted for such a learning module.

In a school environment, this is mostly designed to allow for more interaction and comparative analysis between the participants of the learning exercise.
In a corporate environment, this is to maximize on the allotted training time, so that the participating members of the work force can go back to their usual operations and implement what they learned in the training exercise. Since maximum productivity is the primary concern in most corporate environments and businesses, allowing the members of the work force to get back to their tasks the soonest time possible after the conclusion of the training program, to implement their upgraded knowledge and skills to their tasks, and there provide the much needed return on investment for the company.
While many who have not yet heard of the efficacy of the premise of learning compression may seriously doubt if the practice is at all effective, let alone humanly possible, a study of a number of European companies that have actually implemented the practice into their training programs report that they were able to condense almost 3,000 hours worth of training time into at least 700 hours, although this compression is mostly achieved through comprehensive learning through digitized and web-based learning, popularly known as e-learning solutions, which is fast becoming the preferred mode of learning and training nowadays.

On top of this, the same companies reported that the e-learning management system also effectively saved them around 200 hours of distance learning, in settings wherein they had to do a coordinated and co-opted training exercise with outsourced and offshore offices, and at least 500 hours of classroom instruction in the in-house training sessions, which amounted to a cut of at least 50% of the time that is usually used up during training sessions for employees.

This huge cut in time consumed for training effectively translates into more productive hours for the work force which is incidentally undergoing a learning management system-based training session, since they can use the remainder of the allotted time for training to finish whatever output is still needed from them for the day. The learning process achieved through learning compression is by no means of inferior quality, which is what people would expect when they hear that the learning sessions done this way may be finished much faster than the traditional mode of training. In fact, because of the ability of e-learning solutions to provide a potentially unlimited learning resource and accommodate individualized instruction, it can actually enhance the learning experience exponentially, by allowing in-depth study of problem areas in the learning module, allowing the participants to achieve what is comparable to an advanced and intensive study on the topic.
